  1. I viewed On the Ice over the weekend in Scottsdale with my family. It was a bit embarrassing whenever my wife would recognize someone and comment. We once lived a couple houses down from the Search and Rescue headquarters featured in the movie, at 4284 Karluk. The film's portrayal of alcoholism and drug addiction is a powerful glimpse of the realities of life in Barrow and much of rural Alaska. It presents a flicker of hope in my heart that change might be possible.
